The mission of the Deacon Ministry of Mount Olive Baptist Church (MOBC) is to serve God, support the Pastor, and minister faithfully to the spiritual and practical needs of the congregation.
Guided by the love of Jesus Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit, the Deacons shall demonstrate servant leadership through prayer, compassion, integrity, unity, and faithful service. The Deacon Ministry shall help strengthen the fellowship of the church and ensure that members are cared for, encouraged, and supported throughout their Christian journey.
Purpose
The purpose of the Deacon Ministry is to assist the Pastor in caring for the spiritual well-being of the congregation and to help advance the mission and ministries of Mount Olive Baptist Church.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Deacons shall:
Support and assist the Pastor in carrying out the spiritual mission of the church.
Pray regularly for the Pastor, church leadership, members, families, and community.
Promote Christian love, fellowship, peace, and unity throughout the congregation.
Assist with Holy Communion, Baptism, worship services, and other sacred ordinances and church services as appropriate.
Visit and minister to members who are sick, hospitalized, homebound, grieving, or experiencing hardship.
Provide spiritual encouragement, prayer, and support to members and their families.
Help identify the needs of members and work with the Pastor and appropriate church ministries to provide assistance.
Welcome and encourage new members and help them become connected to the life and ministries of the church.
Serve as examples of Christian character, faithfulness, humility, confidentiality, and integrity.
Work cooperatively with the Pastor, Trustees, church officers, ministries, and congregation for the spiritual and orderly operation of the church.
Encourage members to participate faithfully in worship, Christian education, fellowship, stewardship, and service.
Assist in maintaining peace and unity within the church and approach disagreements with prayer, respect, fairness, and Christian love.
Maintain confidentiality concerning sensitive or personal matters entrusted to the Deacon Ministry, except when disclosure is required by law or necessary to protect an individual from harm.
Perform other spiritual and ministerial responsibilities consistent with Scripture, the church’s bylaws, and the mission of Mount Olive Baptist Church.
Biblical Foundation
The Deacon Ministry shall be guided by the principles of servant leadership found in Acts 6:1–7 and 1 Timothy 3:8–13, recognizing that Christian leadership is a calling to serve rather than to be served.
